To think that there is 2 sides to this is the most naive notion possible.

addressbook - keeping it updated and in sync

It's a struggle to say the least. But what's even more frustrating is the fact that with the various social / professional networking tools, i.e., Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIN, where my friends are already updating their own info - I am NOT able to leverage them to keep my addressbook(s) (of which I have several copies) in-sync or updated :o(

Unemployment

I hate how this information is used and calculated. And I hate, even more, how this information is used and perceived.

First off - the unemployment number is not how many people are out of work at any given time.

Nikon
  • Price
  • Lack of Choice
  • Lagging Behind Canon
  • Collaborating with SONY on the sensor
Price - Comparing with Canon
  • Entry Level Full Frame - $2,217 (D700) vs $1,869 (5D)
  • Top of the Line - $7,995 (D2x) vs $3,741 (1D Mark III) / $3,900 (5D Mark II)
  • 24-70mm f/2.8 - $1,440 vs $1,170
  • 70-200mm f/2.8 - $1,600 (VR) vs $1,488 (IS)

Choice / Selection - limited, very limited.

vs Canon - Canon has really got a head start on this whole digital revolution.

Sensor Ownership - I am sure Nikon has their own strategy on this one, but I feel that sharing ownership of this critical aspect of the product cannot be a good thing.

flickr

Yes, I am quite frustrated with flickr :o( Most of the frustration is from my own experience with flickr (and most of it having to do with searching for my pix) but some of it also comes from various complaints my friends have had and which I have NOT had luck fixing.

Here's a list of my "bugs":
  • Trying to find all pix with a certain tag often not getting any pix
  • Searching for text in the Tags ONLY never works
And here are a list of features (missing all together or designed inconveniently etc) that makes using flickr extremely difficult (if NOT outright useless):
  • Update Multiple pix (yes, I am aware of the things that I can try to do in a batch)
  • Sharing Limitations
  • Poor / limited presentation style
  • Inverse Search
  • Only 1 Default Order to Show Pix (most recent uploaded first) - would be nice to be able to set the default view order to be Most / Least Popular (Viewed | Commented | etc)
  • Automatically add to / remove from Groups (based on tags | EXIF data | etc)
The following are little less irritating, but poorly designed:
  • Archives listing of Photos "Taken On" and "Posted to Flickr" columns are static and does not have to option to change order or collapse or align by year / month of year. I happen to have started posting to flickr in Jan '04, but I've got photos from earlier days that I am starting to post and already my "Taken on" column is 50% longer than my "Posted to Flickr".
And this / these are in the "I have no idea what's happening" category:
  • View Count
Most of the issue my friends face / experience has to do with "uploading" in some fashion. Some examples are:
  • Upload NOT completing
  • The uploadr not working reliably
Other issues include:
  • Not being able to upload & archive my pix at FULL Resolution
Some of these frustrations stem from the fact that I have used "Gallery" in the past and it allowed for some really cool features (mostly related to permission, to an individual user and / or to custom group, based sharing).

FB Login Saga Continues :o(

It seemed like I might have stumbled on the root cause (enable cookies on the browser) and got it fixed. But apparently I was mistaken.

It's still broken.

Facebook Login Issue

Not quite sure what's happening, but I've been having all kinds of issues trying to access FB lately. I keep getting the following message:

I have tried logging in from various browsers (Flock, Firefox, ie, Safari) on both Windows (XP and Vista) and Mac. But neither the browser nor the OS seem to make a diff :o( So, unless proven wrong, I'm blaming it all on FB.

iPhone Prices Slashed

Since I am one of those (not so few) who paid quite a premium to get the iPhone soon after it came out - Steve Jobs' price drop of $200 is not going too well with me.

He is offering a $100 store credit to users like myself. But seriously - almost any retail store matches a price change for 30 days1. Apple should do at least the same. And since we were the pioneer, we should even get a bit extra.

- manzoor

1 - Sears, for example, gave me a 30 day guaranty on the price of refrigerator that I bought.
If they, Sears, drops the price of that Refrigarator within 30 days from the time that I made my purchase, they will refund me the difference.

iPhone - Cons

  1. Missing / Lacking Features - Obviously it's got most of the features most users were looking for. But for me some key features would've been (in no particular order)

    • Ability to "Instant Message" using Gtalk, Yahoo! Messenger and such (as opposed to using Cingular SMS).

    • Bookmark Sync w/Safari or Internet Explorer ONLY (and not w/Netscape or FireFox)

    • Unable to Import from or Sync with Addressbook from Netscape Mail

    • Unable to Sync with Yahoo! or Google Calendar

    • Memory Card Slot

  2. Crippled Feature(s) - Seems to me that these features were intentionally left incomplete

    • Speed - Edge is E-X-T-R-E-M-E-L-Y Slow
    • Calendar - where to begin . . .

      • Repeating Events
      • Events ONLY and no Tasks

    • You Tube - does NOT allow me to log into my YouTube account
    • Weather - no further detail

    • Inability to access iTunes and download directly from iTunes to my iPhone

  3. Useless Features - And of course there are the features that apparently a lot of people like / want but I don't.

    • Camera

Also, though this is NOT a strike against the iPhone, but more against the sales people at the Apple store (or at least the ones here in Austin, TX) - I have not met sales people who are worse at dealing with their customers. My personal experince at the AT&T store was just the opposite. So, when the units do become available - I'll definitely be going to the AT&T store and NOT the cool Apple store.

- manzoor
iPhone - Unavailable :o(

It's out and available and there are hundreds of thousands of people who have already got it. I was really wanting to get it Friday (the 29th, when it came out) - but just never got 'round to it :o(

The rumour was that Apple had waited to make sure they had enough units made so that they wouldn't run out. I believe I even saw some report that they had 4 million units made already. Also, I believe they had sold about half a million over the weekend.

But somehow, none of the stores have any available this morning.

Anticipation

The Anticipation is killing me. I can't get it out of my mind :o(

The good news might be that it's so late, that I don't think it's worth anticipating any longer. I was really hoping for this though.

MLM

What is it that attracts all these MLM guys to me??? It feels like every MLM guy in town gets drawn to me no matter what. Over the years I have probably been approached by a dozen or so of them. I have even been to one of their [free] seminars. I was still a student and I didn't have to pay any money, so it was free. Today, since I am working and have a family, I woudn't consider the same time investment to be "free".

First off they have a new name these days and they have updated their sales picth to include buzz words like:
  • Internet based B2B
  • Portal
They still do use some of the old buzz words too.
  • Residual Income
  • Pro-sumers
They even have their own acronyms:
  • MAD - Marketing, Advertisement and Distribution
